What you will need

To make the ornaments

  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
  2. Combine 2 cups of flour and 1 cup fo salt in a mixing bowl. Stir to combine.
  3. Add 1 cup of cold water and stir. Once the dough has started to come together, use your hands to knead it until smooth.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters. Use a straw to poke a hole near the top of the ornament – this is where the ribbon will be added later.
  5. Lay ornaments on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 2 hours or until hard. Flip about halfway through to ensure even baking.
  6. Let ornaments cool completely before painting.
  7. Once ornaments are painted. Add the ribbon or string. Then hang on your tree or give it to a friend.

Love the dino ornaments. When I was a youth services librarian, we made snowglobes with mason jars one year. It wasn’t as easy as I had read–and I definitely had some fake tears over it–but I love Christmas crafts. Time to string some popcorn too! I know tons of people that will love this easy craft for their families.

Mason jar snow globes are something that has been on my list to try for a while now, but I keep putting it off because I felt it would be too messy. I’ll probably give it a try one of these years. Oh man, I haven’t done a popcorn string decorations in forever! I wish I could do it again but the dog would totally eat it.

They are so simple to make! Really the only time-consuming part is the baking, and even that’s not too bad. The kids would definitely enjoy it. Painting is by far the best part. The dino ones are some of my favorites too, but the rhinos are number one for me.

I am the biggest slat dough fan! Strangely enough, I hadn’t considered making Christmas decorations from this amazing material. I’m usually just making handprints and footprints of my kids! These Christmas ornaments are truly brilliant! I’m going to give them a go but I’m sure mine won’t turn out as good as yours! xxx
