There is something about the holidays that makes me want to craft. This year, I embraced that feeling and made several crafts. A couple of years ago, I remembered seeing a picture of clothespin snowflakes and I thought the idea was really neat. Seeing snowflake decorations everywhere, I was reminded of this craft and decided to give it a try. This craft was very quick and easy to make, and could very well become part of my family’s Christmas traditions. The post may contain affiliate links. Christmas is just 20 days away! I am so excited. I have always loved Christmas. Part of what I love about this holiday is the leadup to it. From the first sighting of Christmas decorations in the store, which I admit happens a bit early now, setting out a plate of cookies Christmas eve, and the excitement of seeing everyone open their gifts. Christmas is just so full of joy, it’s hard not to be filled with Christmas spirit. Over the years, I have developed a few Christmas traditions. Some of these are throwbacks to my childhood, while others my husband, son and I have developed overRead More →

One of the best parts about the holiday season is all of the festive recipes. There is no end to the different types of recipes available this time of year and each one has it’s own distinct yet festive flavor. Some of my favorite holiday baking recipes involve molasses. There is something about this ingredient that just screams Christmas. Though there are many recipes that include this ingredient, one of my favorite to make is Gingerbread Loaf. This sweet bread has a wonderful flavor to it and is pleasantly moist, making it the perfect holiday treat. This bread is a great snack option for aRead More →

November has come and gone. During the month, my family did a no spend challenge. Now that it is over, it’s time to do a no spend November recap. Though we have done no spend months in the past, this was the first one we did since starting the blog. In fact, it was the first one we had done in close to a year, so it was overdue. After setting some rules, it was time to get to it. I have to say that doing this no spend month was just what we needed. I know a lot of people find the idea ofRead More →

December is here! Can you believe we are in the final month of 2018? This year has gone by so fast and yet I don’t mind because I have accomplished so much already. A new month means a new set of goals and I’m ready to finish 2018 off strong. But, before I share my December goals with you, I need to go over how I did with my November goals. How I did in November Complete NaNoWriMo. Didn’t quite hit this goal, but I did get some writing done. I will be sharing how it all went soon, so stay tuned for that. Declutter theRead More →

It’s December and you know what that means? It’s Blogmas time! I’m so excited to be doing Blogmas for the first time. I’ll admit that the idea of Blogmas was pretty intimidating when I first came across it, but then I found myself wanting to do it. So I decided to give it a try. To start Blogmas off, let’s talk about the 25 days of Christmas movies. Back in 2016, my family decided to start watching a Christmas movie every day from December 1st all the way to the 25th. Since then we have looked forward to this yearly Christmas tradition. It has beenRead More →

Winter food prep banner - table full of groceries

Winter is on its way. Though fall has only been around for a short time, there is no denying that winter won’t be far off. In fact, we have already had several snowfalls and temperatures have been near or below freezing for most of October. In November, we saw everything from -30C to above freezing with rain. Winter predictions vary a bit, but for the most part, Canada is going to be cold and snow. Big shock I know. But knowing that it could potentially be a snow-heavy winter is important. Heavy snow can lead to road closures, which can, in turn, lead to supplies being delayed.Read More →

Mystery Blog Award banner

I love the blogging community. Ever since I started this blog, there has been nothing but positive support. One of the nice touches to the blogging community is the blogger awards. These awards help to show love to bloggers old and new. I was nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award by Phigella and Imogen. This is the second time that I have been nominated for this award – though I suppose technically it’s higher than that since this post alone contains two people who nominated me. The Mystery Blogger Award was created by Okoto Enigma. Be sure to visit her blog! The Rules Put the award logo/imageRead More →

tackle your TBR pile

As a book lover, the allure of a new book is always strong. It is near impossible to walk past a bookstore and not pop in. It’s even harder to leave that same bookstore without a new book or two. The satisfaction of placing books on a shelf, adding them to our to-be-read (TBR) list and talking about books with other bookish people. But when it comes to reading our TBR, it’s not always easy. Which brings in a whole new set of problems. So, how do you tackle your TBR? Set monthly reading goals What better way to get through your TBR than toRead More →

NaNoWriMo progress update

It’s officially the halfway point of NaNoWriMo. I thought it would be fun to give you a little update on how I’m doing. Though I have posted a few minor updates on Twitter, I haven’t gone into too much detail. Thus, I give you my official half-way through NaNoWriMo progress report. Day 1 & 2 I started off strong. Getting ahead on the first day is something that I strive to do each year. Not only does it make me feel great, but it gives me that little cushion for days when the words don’t flow as easily. At the end of day 1, I wasRead More →
