November has come and gone and with it the end of NaNoWriMo. This 30-day long writing challenge is something I look forward to each year. Though my NaNoWriMo results vary greatly from year to year, I still enjoy it. If you are curious about how the first half of the month went, you can check out my progress report.
Day 16 to 20
I can’t exactly recall what happened during these days. However, what I know is that I didn’t get a single word written. It happens sometimes. So my total word count at this point was 8426. Yes, I’m fairly far behind at this point, but it’s not the end of the world. The time I might have spent writing, I started working on a couple of craft projects.
Finally, after struggling to get any writing done, I sat down and banged out 522 words. Now, that’s not quite the 1667 words I need each day to reach the end goal, but after not writing for nearly a week, I was happy with it. This brought my total word count up to 8948. On top of this, I worked several crafting projects.
Day 22 & 23
Hello, writer’s block! Seriously, this year has been such a struggle. I am still not sure if it’s the story or if it’s something else, but I am once again drawing a blank on writing. On the upside, this gave me the time I needed to work on some crafts.
I did some writing! Unfortunately, it wasn’t for my novel. That being said, typing up five blog posts in the space of two hours is a pretty good achievement. At this point, it would honestly take a miracle to catch up and hit the 50,000-word count goal.
I don’t think I even looked at my writing project at all during this time. I wanted to, I really did want to keep writing, but at this point, I had admitted defeat. During this time, I did a bunch of crafting.
Defeat be damned! I had a sudden burst of inspiration and added another 417 words! This brought my word total up to 9365.
Day 29 & 30
Remember why day 28 word count total? Yeah, it remained that way for the remainder of NaNoWriMo, which was these two days.
So obviously I didn’t “win” this year. I was 40,635 words away from my target word count. It’s a bit disappointing, as I was really hoping to add another win to my profile. I’m not particularly mad or disappointed in myself. I got a lot of other things done over the course of the month.
Did you participate in NaNoWriMo? If so, how did you do?
