It’s officially the halfway point of NaNoWriMo. I thought it would be fun to give you a little update on how I’m doing. Though I have posted a few minor updates on Twitter, I haven’t gone into too much detail. Thus, I give you my official half-way through NaNoWriMo progress report.
NaNoWriMo progress report
Day 1 & 2
I started off strong. Getting ahead on the first day is something that I strive to do each year. Not only does it make me feel great, but it gives me that little cushion for days when the words don’t flow as easily. At the end of day 1, I was sitting at 1703 words, which is just over the 1667 word goal. I followed this up with 1906 words written on day two, bringing my total word count to 3609.
Day 3 to 7
This is where things died off with my writing. But, I have a good reason for that. We had a major painting project going on in our house, something that we had been meaning to do for quite some time, so the words had to wait. We were racing against time to get this done as it had to happen before it got too cold outside. Cold walls don’t hold paint well. I did manage to get some blog work done during these days, but the majority of my time was spent painting. While my word count suffered, I am so glad that we finally got those rooms painted and the house looks wonderful.
We were finally done with the painting and the house was back together. Now it was time to get back into writing. Taking nearly a week off meant it was hard to get back into the groove. I did manage to get 304 words done on day 8, which isn’t much, but it’s better than nothing. Of course, I forgot to update my word count on this day, so these words got added to my day 9 total.
After a bit of struggle getting back into writing on day 8, I was ready to go on day 9. With my writing music on and a severely neglected story in my mind, I set about writing. In no time I had typed up 2182 words. It felt good to be back at it. This brought my total word count up to 6095. At this point, I am still several days behind on my word count, but at least I am still going.
Day 10 & 11
Weekends are those busy times for me. It’s when I do my weekly baking and get our laundry done. We also have a tradition of sitting down as a family and watching a movie every Saturday night. Because of this, I did no writing on day 10. When day 11 rolled around, I was eager to get back to it. But life kept me distracted for most of the day. Finally, it was night time, which is my prime writing time. I turned on my writing music, opened up Microsoft word and then proceeded to sit there for just over an hour not writing. It’s funny to think about it now, but I was so busy enjoying listening to the writing music that I forgot to write! Sometimes, the items in your NaNoWriMo survival kit backfire on you.
This was a busy typing day for me. I started doing blog work in the morning and didn’t stop until late afternoon. I managed to finish off two blog posts and draft another one during that time. That in itself is impressive since I normally struggle to do any form of writing during the daylight hours. Just when I thought that I might have used up all my writing power, I was able to add 2089 words to my word count, bringing the total up to 8184. I’m still behind but slowly catching up.
After having such an amazingly productive day the previous day, I, of course, got no writing done on day 13. It happens.
Well, I wasn’t very productive writing-wise this day. I did manage a small bit of writing, adding 242 words, bringing up my total to 8426.
Since we are currently on this day, and I haven’t yet done any writing, there’s not much to say. I will update this once I do any writing.
Thus ends my NaNoWriMo progress report. The above chart shows how my word count looks compared to where it should be. I’m still behind by quite a bit, but I’m not bothered by that. I’m still writing and that’s the important part.
