NaNoWriMo 2019 week 3 update

We are about two-thirds of the way through NaNoWriMo! Time is flying by! The word count is piling up and a story is forming. Or at least that’s what should be happening. Everyone’s NaNoWriMo experience is different. Some may be ahead on word count and others may be behind. There may be novels coming to an end or several projects in the works. If you have managed to stay on track, then you should have hit 35007 words now. If you are there, I congratulate you on sticking with it! If you are behind, I congratulate you on every single word you have written so far and want you to keep going! After sharing an update of week 1 and week 2 of my progress, it’s time to have a¬†NaNoWriMo 2019 week 3 update.

Can you believe that there is only just over a week remaining of this challenge?

NaNoWriMo 2019 week 3

Day 15

The week started off pretty good writing-wise. Within just a few word sprints, I was able to write 2332 words. I feel like 2k words is the magic number for me, as most days I hit this or more.

Day 16

Another day another 2454 written. Things were flowing pretty well. I did encounter one small roadblock but was able to overcome it.

Day 17

Can you guess how many words I wrote today? I seem to have formed a writing pattern with that 2k daily word goal. The 2203 words written this day came so effortlessly. I was able to tackle a chapter that I had previously skipped over and it felt good to fill in that hole.

Day 18

Well, I don’t know what happened here, but things did not work out as planned. I was hoping to get a bunch of writing done, exploring some chapters I was eager to write. The words weren’t having it though. After more than an hour of trying, I only managed 758 words. Certainly not my worst writing day of the month. I still wish I could have done more.

Day 19

The words were flowing once more. I was able to go back and write a chapter I had skipped earlier. That chapter had been giving me issues, which is why I skipped it. But I had an epiphany this day and was able to get it done. It probably needs some more work at some point, heck the whole novel does, but that’s fine. I wrote 2154 words this day.

Day 20

This was an incredibly hard day of writing to start with. I wanted to focus on things, but my mind was going elsewhere. After writing 670 words, I hit a major block. I stared at the screen for the longest time but nothing happened. I didn’t want to end the day with such a low word count, so I decided to try something a little different. Opening a new file, I was able to write 4672 words. Turns out, I just needed to stare at a blank screen before the words came flowing freely out.

My word count total for this day came to 5342.

Day 21

Most of this day was spent shoveling snow and slush. We had some nasty weather all day long and it resulted in heavy slush on the driveway and roads. By the time I sat down to write, I was physically and mentally exhausted. I still gave it my all, which wasn’t all that much, and ended up with 406 words.

This brings my word count total to 71731. I’m really impressed with that. In past years I have never really gone more than a few hundred words past the 50k mark. But it’s clear that this story is speaking to me, so I’m more than happy to keep writing.

Thus brings an end of NaNoWriMo 2019 week 3. My writing has slowed down a bit, but I don’t mind so much. I still have quite a bit to write for this story, but it’s getting hard. Honestly, a want to go back and fix some things that I wrote earlier, as the plotline has shifted so much those scenes don’t 100% work anymore. But, I am stopping myself from doing that, as NaNoWriMo is about writing, not editing. How was your third week of NaNoWriMo?

Clearly this is a story that you have to finish out! Any book that flows so quickly is ine that you must have a lot of ideas and passions for. You’ve already kicked butt this nano and I really hope you get the story finished and edited out for future reading!

Yes! It’s really taken me by surprise how much this story has grabbed me and demanded my fullest attention. Thanks. I do plan to see this one through to the end, even if I do dread editing some sections of it.

Thank you! I definitely don’t write this much normally, but something about NaNoWriMo really fuels my desire to write, for a while at least.

Wow, congratulations! You are absolutely smashing it this year – I hope you can keep it up for as long as you want. This is my first year not doing it for a while because I was away when it started for just a bit too long to then be able to pull it back, but might challenge myself in December instead, aha. Good luck for your final week!

Thank you! Ah, that’s a shame you missed out on it this year, but doing a personal writing challenge in December sounds like fun. And of course, there is also Camp NaNoWriMo to look forward to in April and July.
