There is something exciting about getting a box full of snacks every month. Bokksu is a monthly subscription service that brings traditional Japanese snacks to your door. Each month has a different theme and highlights flavors from different areas of Japan. I have been enjoying Bokksu for more than 2 years and always look forward to when it arrives each month. The theme of the June 2022 Bokksu is Midori Moments. Midori means green in Japanese and nearly all of these snacks are green or flavored by a green item, mainly matcha. I have tried a number of matcha-flavored items in the past and for the most part, I enjoyed them. However, I wasn’t sure how it would be to experience a box that was predominantly that flavor.

June 2022 Bokksu – Midori Moments
Toritama Baumkuchen: Matcha
I’ve had this exact Baumkuchen in the August 2021 Bokksu and really enjoyed it. The matcha flavor is more on the mild side but I think that works perfectly for this cake. It was quite soft and I love the unique look of this cake.
Ring Financier: Matcha
This little snack was wonderful. It was soft and moist, and if I didn’t know any better I would have said it was made today as it was so fresh tasting. The chocolate ganache in the center was not my favorite part, as there was something strange about the flavor. Otherwise, a really enjoyable little treat.
Tokushima Sudachi Gummy
These gummies had quite a bite to them. Almost like a miniature sour punch to the mouth. They were oddly addictive though.
Furano Melon Cookie
Best item for sure. Amazing melon flavor and smell. It’s truly a shame that there was only one of these because it was absolutely fantastic. If it wasn’t for the crunch of the cookie you would swear you were biting into a fresh melon.
Kingyo Jelly: Grape
Surprisingly good, nice mild grape flavor. The little fish jellies at the bottom were odd though, especially their flavor.
Kudamono Kotoba: Apple
I quite liked these. The flavor was mild but a nice break from all the matcha of this box.
Denroku Mame: Black Sesame
I don’t like black sesame so this was not a good snack for me. It’s simply too strong of a flavor for me to like.
Kabosu Nuts Sable Cookie
Wasn’t sure about this one at first but it grew on me and by the time I was done with the first one I was looking forward to eating the second one.
Souka Matcha Senbei
I didn’t care for this one. The matcha coating on the senbei seemed a bit off.
Satsumarche Yuzu Ryokucha Green Tea
Tea isn’t my thing but I still do my best to try it with an open mind. This one was alright and I could see how it would pair well with a number of the included snacks.
Uji Matcha Waffle Cookie
This crunchy cookie was pretty good. The matcha flavor was mild and paired well with the cookie. I was expecting the waffle to be soft, as often waffle items I have tried were soft, however, this one was crunchy.
Funwari Meijin Mochi Puffs: Matcha Latte
I love mochi puffs. Any time I see them in a Bokksu I get excited. However, at this point, I was so tired of matcha that I was only mildly interested in trying this. They were good, but not my favorite.
Wafuu Mayo Arare
This teeny-tiny snack was almost a letdown, only because it was so small I felt like I couldn’t truly appreciate the flavor.
Lotus Root Chips: Wasabi Soy Sauce
I loved these. By far, my second favorite snack this month. The wasabi packed a punch and then faded away quickly leaving a soft lingering taste of soy sauce. I really wished there was a second bag because these were fantastic.
These crackers were alright. I neither loved nor hated them. I found they were best eaten only a couple at a time otherwise the flavor started to become almost overwhelming.
Kyo No Sato: Negi Miso
This one surprised me. Normally, I find miso to be too strong a flavor to enjoy. Yet this snack was really enjoyable. Crunchy, good flavor and I honestly would have been happy to have another one but only one was good too.
I hope you enjoyed my review of the June 2022 Bokksu. Have you tried Bokksu?
