Favorite Christmas decorations – Blogmas day 8

Favorite Christmas decorations – Blogmas day 8

Christmas is fast approaching. There is something about this time of year that makes me stop and enjoy the joys of life. Seeing all those decorations in the stores and around my house leaves me feeling happy. Taking the time to carefully place each decoration on a tree or table creates a special feeling and enhances that space. Our tradition of putting up the tree and decorating it is one of my favorites. Of course, even in doing that, I feel happy seeing certain ornaments. Though I love all of the ornaments that we own, some are my favorites. There is a mix of new and old, and some even have special meaning. Today, I thought it would be nice to share which decorations I love the most and explain why that is.

Rudolph & Clarice

From the time I was young, I have always loved the movie Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. So, once I started picking out ornaments for myself, I quickly bought a set of Rudolph ones. It has several of the main characters, Yukon Cornelius, Santa, The Bumble, Sam The Snowman, King Moonracer, and of course Rudolph and Clarice. These are the some of the first ornaments that I even bought for my tree and have always been given a prominent spot every year. In fact, my family knows to leave the very middle center spot of the tree open because that’s where Rudolph and Clarice go. I also always put them facing each other, similar to the scene where Clarice sings the song “There’s Always Tomorrow” in the movie. Seeing them there, looking at each other, brings such happiness to me every time I look at the tree.

Star Wars Decorations

Star Wars is a huge part of our lives. We love the movies and make sure to watch the latest ones on opening night every year. So, it should come as no surprise that quite a few of our trees decorations are Star Wars. We have characters from many movies, and make sure to add any new ones we see on a regular basis. I would love to be able to get some of the older ones and add them to the collection. And of course, our tree wouldn’t be complete without Santa Yoda guarding it. Truth be told, I would love to do a full Star Wars tree one year, but we would need a few more decorations to pull that off.

Our tree all set up, guarded by Santa Yoda.

Belle

One of my favorite Disney cartoons is Beauty & The Beast. So, about two years ago, when I saw this Belle decoration I knew I had to get her – even though she has glitter and my house is a glitter-free zone. This ornament also incorporates my love of reading into the tree since she is holding a book. Honestly, if she wasn’t holding a book I would have been highly disappointed. It’s too bad I haven’t found a Beast ornament yet, because that would perfectly compliment Belle’s presence on the tree. Perhaps one year they will make him.

Maleficent

I have a soft spot for villains. Sure, I love the heroes in stories, but it’s the villains I truly love. Maleficent has always been my favorite Disney villain, so of course, she had to be added to the tree. I will admit, that when I place her on the tree I proclaim that the tree has been decorated “with all the powers of Hell!”.

Moana & Maua

Can you tell that I’m a kid at heart? Nearly all of my favorite decorations step from children’s movies. But I don’t care. I fully embrace being a kid at heart this time of year. These two were purchases last year, along with a few others – thus breaking out one new ornament a year tradition, but I was happy to do so.

Vintage ornaments

I saved the best for last. While I love all of the above ornaments and really all of the ones that I put on the tree, these ones are my favorite of all. These ornaments were given to me by my grandparents when I moved out on my own. They knew how much I loved Christmas and they wanted to make sure I had the means to decorate. They were trying to downsize a bit, so I inherited their old tree, garland and these wonderful ornaments. These ornaments range from 50-60 years old. Some are falling apart and thus don’t make it onto the tree anymore, but I still keep them safely tucked in their box. Seeing these ornaments on the tree reminds me of how much I loved seeing them on my their tree.

One day, I hope to be able to fix the ones which have remained boxed up for years and place them on the tree as well. And one day, these will be passed down to my son, so that he too can decorate his future tree with them.

Some of the ornaments that my grandparents give me. Notice the $0.63 price sticker.

What ornaments and decorations do you always put up and consider your favorites? Are they store bought or perhaps a DIY ornament?

Decorating for the holidays feels wonderful. Especially when one takes the time to admire those ornaments that have become favorites over the years.
