December 2022 Bokksu – Hokkaido Wonderland

Morimoto Cookie: Haskapp

I had this cookie before in the February 2022 Bokksu and was looking forward to trying it again. The berry flavor was stronger this time and made me think of summer. The texture was soft, similar to a sugar cookie. Much like my first experience, I was left craving more, however, only one cookie was included.

White Sesame Dango Mochi

I love mochi, however, mochi covered with small seeds takes away from the experience. It’s a conflict of textures with the crunchy seeds and the chewy mochi inside. Ignoring that, these were good but would have been better without the sesame seeds.

Hoshu Tea

I’m not a tea fan, and this one didn’t really stand out to me as anything special. However, I am sure those who enjoy tea would like it.

Snow Mimosa Cookie

Can a rye cookie, covered in white chocolate and sprinkled with cheese be good? Surprisingly enough, yes! This is not a flavor combination I expected to like, yet it worked. My husband also tried this one and enjoyed t even more than I did.

Yubari Melon Toukibi Chocolate

Opening the package, I was hit by such a strong melon scent that it sent me back to summer. It was like cutting open a fresh cantaloupe and that first waft of scent hits you. The flavor itself was weak compared to the scent, but even so, this snack was fantastic. I’m glad there were two because I needed a second one.

Tsukisamu Anpan Black Sesame Latte

As with all black sesame-flavored items, this one went to my husband He said it didn’t taste like black sesame at all and was very delicious. The outside anpan was soft. I took his word for it and let him enjoy it.

Sekkasei Cookie

This cookie took me by surprise. It was so soft and melt in your mouth that it was gone too soon. The flavor was fantastic, very similar to white chocolate but not quite the same.

Hokkaido Milk Manju

Normally, white bean paste is something I don’t enjoy – much like its red bean paste counterpart. However, this little white bean paste-filled bun was really good! I think it helped that the bun had a sweet milky flavor that paired well with the white bean paste.

Vegetable Arare Grilled Corn

One thing I have learned from trying Bokksu over the years is that corn-flavored treats are always top-notch. Needless to say, I was looking forward to this one. The flavor was good, however, I couldn’t get past the fact that it also felt and tasted stale. I don’t know if it was a fluke or was meant to be that way because both of them were the same.

Rick Hokkaido Butter Chips

These chips were certainly one of my top snacks from this month’s Bokksu, if not my favorite items. They were like eating a baked potato slathered in butter. This snack did not last long but I enjoyed every second of it.

Milk Cream Sandwich Cookie

I think this was the one treat that flopped when compared to my expectations. Milk-favored treats are so good and yet this one was mediocre at best.

Hokkaido Yoichi White Grape Gummy

Initially, I didn’t think much of these gummies. They didn’t have much flavor, though the texture of them was great. However, they really grew on me, and after a few the grape flavor became more pronounced.

Honey Okaki Senbei

I knew this one would be good and I was right. The senbei was crispy and slightly flaky. The soy honey flavor was the star of the show. This is another flavor combination you really can’t go wrong with. I would have loved a second one.

Hokkaido Milk Karinto Crisps

This is another contender for the best item of this month’s Bokksu. These deep-fried wheat crisps had a fantastic crunchy and puffed texture and the milk flavor paired perfectly with it. I wish I could better describe what they tasted like because these words do not do this snack justice and yet the proper words elude me at the moment.

Shimaenaga Milk Bouchee

This little cream-filled cake was good but lacking in a way. The cake was soft and airy. Yet the cream was where it faltered a little. Don’t get me wrong, the cream was good, however, it didn’t stand out as much as it should have.

I hope you enjoyed my review of the December 2022 Bokksu. Have you tried Bokksu?
