Subscription boxes have grown in popularity over the years. With subscription boxes for just about everything, you can find one that corresponds with your likes. Personally, I think snack boxes are the way to go. To make it even better, there are subscriptions like Bokksu, which allow you to enjoy traditional Japanese snacks from the comfort of your own home. Every month, Bokksu sends you a themed box featuring snacks from different prefectures in Japan. As an added bonus, many of these companies have been around for 100 years or more, truly highlighting these traditional snacks and their makers. The booklet also includes the historyRead More →

A new month and year have arrived! It’s hard to believe that 2021 is already over and we are in a new year with new opportunities before us. Though many people use January as an opportunity to start something new through making resolutions, I instead will be sticking with making monthly goals. I find that I am more successful when I set goals over resolutions. Breaking down my bigger goals into smaller chunks on a monthly basis helps a lot. Before we look at my January 2022 goals, let’s take a moment to look back and see how I did with my December goals. DecemberRead More →

The twelfth and final month of 2021 has arrived! Can you believe that the year is nearly over? The first few months flew by, then there were a few slower months and before we knew it, December was here. This month is an opportunity to give one final push to get stuff done before we roll over into a new year. Whether it’s big or small, working on a goal or two will help the month go by. Setting monthly goals has become a huge part of my life and though each month presents new opportunities to increase or decrease my goal load, I alwaysRead More →

The eleventh month of 2021 has arrived. We are getting wonderfully close to finishing the year and starting another. November is one of my favorite months, mostly because it is the month of NaNoWriMo – the month-long writing challenge. But the month itself is nice in other ways. The weather, while cold, is still pleasant most days. Hot chocolate and soup become regular features on the meal plan. But, like all months, it’s an opportunity to get stuff done. Breaking my large goals into smaller monthly chunks helps keep me on track and avoids the overwhelm of trying to get it all done at once.Read More →

The tenth month of 2021 has arrived. We are now officially in the last quarter of the year and the time truly is flying by. October is the month when fall truly arrives, the trees are filled with yellows and oranges, and the air is taking on a crisp feeling. Like all other months, I will be setting a number of goals to keep me busy throughout the month and allow me to work toward some bigger goals as well. Before we dive into my October 2021 goals, let’s take a moment to look back at how I did with my September goals. September reviewRead More →

When it comes to subscription boxes, the best ones are packed full of food. That is why I love Bokksu so much. Not only is it full of snacks, but Bokksu highlights the flavors and textures of traditional Japanese snacks, often focusing on a particular flavor or event as the month’s theme. The August 2021 Bokksu was focused on the Moon Festival. The pamphlet includes the folktale of the rabbit on the moon along with a few Japanese words to learn. I have enjoyed Bokksu in the past, such as the July 2021 Bokksu. If you are looking to experience the flavors of Japan withoutRead More →

The ninth month of 2021 has arrived. We are steadily approaching the end of the year. September ushers in the beginning of school and the arrival of fall – which is the best season. As with all months, I like to create a list of goals to accomplish. Whether that list is long or short will depend on the month. After doing this for a few years, I’ve really come to enjoy creating and reaching these goals. If you haven’t started making monthly goals yet, then I highly encourage you to start doing so. Before we get to my September 2021 goals, let’s first takeRead More →

The eighth month of 2021 has arrived. It’s crazy to believe we are already in the second half of the year. This means that the beginning of fall is only a month away. I know it may feel too soon to be talking about fall, but honestly, it’s just around the corner. So while summer is still here, let’s make the most of it. The best way to do that is to set monthly goals. I’ve been setting monthly goals for a few years now and it has made a huge difference in my life. Each month presents different challenges and so it’s important toRead More →

In Japan, Natsu matsuri, or summer festivals, occurs in July and August. These festivals all have different traditions and origins. However, one thing they have in common is a selection of summer-inspired food.  For those of us who don’t live in Japan or are unable to visit during these festivals may feel like we are missing out. But there is a way to experience the traditional flavors of these festivals at home. The July 2021 Bokksu captured the flavors and textures of the Japanese summer festival and brings them right to your door. This is not my first time trying Bokksu. Back in 2020, IRead More →

The seventh month of 2021 has arrived and with it, we are officially in the second half of the year. Time sure is flying and before we know it, winter and the end of the year will be here. I know it feels too early to think about that, but let’s be honest, it will be here before any of us are ready. But let’s focus back on the present month. As with every month, I do my best to set a number of goals to keep me busy. These goals help me work toward bigger life goals while also setting aside time for someRead More →
