Top Ten Tuesday: Books on my Winter TBR

Winter has been around for a while now, despite what the calendars say. Winter is one of the best times to read, especially since it’s often too cold to go outside. So why not curl up with a good book or two? Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish post run by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic: books on my winter TBR. I don’t tend to stick to TBR piles, though I do pick out books I want to read on a monthly basis. Truth is, I do my best to read what I pick out, but sometimes you just need to pick up another book. Having the chance to choose what you want to read is important. So, while I may not stick to this list, I did have tons of fun making up my Fall TBR a couple of months ago – and I read most of those!

Books on my Winter TBR

Kimi ni Todoke by Karuho Shiina

After watching the anime a few months ago, I was interested in checking out the original story. I was actually able to get this entire series between a used book store and a manga sale at Chapters. Now that I have the entire series, I am eager to dive into it. I think this will be a perfect wintertime read. This series has thirty volumes, which has me excited to explore all of it, as I believe the manga goes beyond where the anime ends.

The Dinosaur Knights by Victor Milan

Since reading The Dinosaur Lords a couple of months ago, I have been eager to continue this series. I love fantasy, and this one is wonderfully unique because there are dinosaurs in it! That’s right, there are knights in shining armor riding on dinosaurs! What’s not to like?

The Unicorn Quest by John Lee

This was a book I picked up randomly at a used book store because it had a unicorn on the cover. I know pretty much nothing about it, except that the main characters must go on a journey to find unicorns – which may not exist. It’s an older book but I think it could be a fun read.

Elephant Song by Wilbur Smith

Another book I know very little about but that seems to be the theme with my shelves. I do know this one covers the plight of elephants in Africa and the fight to save the species and the land. Sounds pretty interesting.

Shogun by James Clavell

This is a book I have been meaning to read for YEARS! I just haven’t gotten around to it. However, I really want to start reading it soon, hence putting it on my winter TBR. I’ve been really into Japan lately, so this seems like the perfect time to finally start reading this series.

Elantris by Brandon Sanderson

I have no clue what this book is about. However, I do know that is is fantasy and I do love fantasy books. This one was gifted to me by a friend a couple of years ago. It would be nice to finally read it this winter.

Wolfblade by Jennifer Fallon

I read the sequel trilogy to this one a few years ago and really enjoyed it. So, I’m looking forward to exploring more in-depth many of the events that occurred before those books and seeing more of the characters that will help to shape things.

Strange The Dreamer by Laini Taylor

I loved her Daughter of Smoke & Bone series, so when this book came out I had to get it. It’s been sitting on my shelf since. I think I have been hesitant to dive into it because I’m not sure I will love it as much as that series. Time to cast those doubts aside and just read the darn thing.

The African Trilogy by Chinua Achebe

Yet another book that I know little about. Ignoring that, I have wanted to read this book for quite some time. With luck, I will be able to read the entire trilogy over the winter.

One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake

Another sequel I’ve been meaning to read for a few months. I read Three Dark Crowns not long ago and I have been curious as to where the story will lead. Especially after that ending. I might reread the first book before diving into this one.

There you have it, the top ten books on my winter TBR. Time will tell if I get to all of them this season, but I am hopeful. What books are you looking forward to reading this winter?

I love the idea of creating a list of books to read. These days I am a lot more spontaneous when it comes to reading. I have issues committing:) I “feel” like a type of book and then I go looking for it ( I think it stems from years of being told what to read, the plight of literature studies…) I read shogun yearsssss ago and remember loving it. Are you going to review the books after reading?

I bounce between sticking to a list and reading what strikes my fancy at that moment. I do mini-reviews at the end of the month, but planning to do full reviews of some books in the future.
