August goals, what I want to accomplish this month

August goals banner

July has come to an end and it’s hard to believe that the summer is half over. With August’s arrival, it’s time to set up a new list of monthly goals. I’m not going to lie, July was a bit of a writeoff in many ways. Too many distractions, family visits, enjoying the nice weather and other things kept me busy in ways I hadn’t expected. Before I share my August goals, let’s take a moment to see how I did with my July goals.

How did I do with my July goals?

Life goals

  • Read at least 10 books. Almost didn’t happen, but squeezed it in at the end of the month. Check out what I read in July.
  • Watch 1 season of a show. Not even close. I didn’t put in much time to watching things. I did watch 1 episode of The Rising of the Shield Hero, 4 episodes of Fruits Basket and 4 episodes of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
  • Try 1 new recipe. Yes! My one major success this month. I tried 8 new recipes in July! I ended up making Orange Chicken, Sushi, Beef & Broccoli, Sesame Chicken, Mochi Ice Cream, Omurice, Harusame Salad, and General Tso’s Chicken. It was a very tasty month!
  • Write 1-2 chapters. Nope. Didn’t even think about doing this.
  • Walk every day. Missed a couple of days but we also did two walks on many days, so that all balances out. I will call it a success.
  • Spend 30+ minutes learning Japanese every day. Nope. I skipped a whole heck of a lot of days. I did my best to do as much as I could on days when I found the time, but if I had to guess, I missed about half of the month.
  • Weed the garden. Yes. It wasn’t too bad, especially considering the month was fairly dry, but still an annoying task. At least the garden is doing pretty good.
  • Home improvement projects. Yes. I managed to get the window trim painted, something I have been meaning to do for two years now. I also touched up the paint in my son’s room and painted in inside of the cupboard in his room as well.

Blogging goals

  • Update 5 posts. Very much so. I updated 10 posts for sure, maybe more. I was on a roll and stopped counting once I hit 10.
  • Get ahead on posts. Nope! This just wasn’t the month for new posts. Life got in the way and then when I did do blog work I focused on older posts.
  • Create new pin images. Yup. Hit a bit of a snag with this but managed to find a workaround and got a bunch done.
  • Add a ‘Work with me’ page. Not even close.
  • Update my ‘About me’ page. I tried to do this. However, every time I sat down to do so my mind went blank on what to put there, so I left it for now.

August goals

Because July was a bit of a wash goals wise, a lot of my August goals are repeats.

Life goals

  • Read at least 10 books. I’m hoping to make a bit more time for my reading this month. But at the very minimum, I’m once again aiming to read 10 books.
  • Watch 1 season of a show. I’ve got a few shows I want to watch and I’m hoping to get at least 1 season done this month.
  • Try 1 new recipe. What can I say, I love trying new recipes. So this one has to stay on the list.
  • Walk every day. Gotta take advantage of that nice weather, right?
  • Spend 30+ minutes learning Japanese every day. This is going to be a goal for the foreseeable future, but I know if I don’t list it here then I might not stick to it.
  • Weed the garden. This is something that has to be done regularly, hence why it’s listed here. I do hate pulling weeds but it’s got to be done.
  • Home improvement projects. I think the last big project we have left is sealing the deck. We just need a window of good weather to get it done.
  • Eat from the pantry and freezer. Yes, we are doing this again. We had great success when we did this from January to May and now its time to do it again. Our freezer and pantry are pretty full, so we want to eat it down before we do our big winter stock up in the coming months.
  • Declutter the house. This has been an ongoing project for the last two year. However, I want to go through it all one more time to really get rid of some things that we may have overlooked or thought we would need/use but aren’t. Its time to trim all the fat once and for all.

Blogging goals

  • Update 5 posts. I’ve been doing good with this, so I want to keep it up until all my old posts are updated.
  • Get ahead on posts. This may be the month this actually happens.
  • Create new pin images. Another ongoing goal, so this one may appear monthly. Or at least until I’m 100% satisfied with my pin images.
  • Add a ‘Work with me’ page. Meant to do it last month but it didn’t happen. So need to get it done this time.
  • Update my ‘About me’ page. Another one that didn’t happen last month.

Those are my August goals. What goals do you have for the month?

Wow! Recipes and home improvement projects…you just described our life right now. 🙂
It looks like your July was SUPER BUSY!

    1. Avatar

Haha, that’s funny how we’re up to the same thing. It was indeed a busy month but I’m glad it’s over so I can refocus on some other things – especially the things I didn’t get to in July.

These are great goals! I hope August goes well for you and you are able to achieve all the goals! Thank you for sharing xx

Thank you. I hope I’m able to hit all of these goals as well. I should if I keep at it and look here often to remind myself what I still need to do.

These are great goals! What TV series do you think you’ll watch?

My main two are getting back into exercise and trying to post a little more on my instagram.

Thanks. I’m not 100% sure what shows I will be watching, but a few on my list are Ranma 1/2, Overlord, Record of Grancrast War and Riders of Berk. Those are some great goals! Good luck with getting them done.

These are so awesome! I’ve been trying to learn a language too (any language at this point). I never seem to make myself find the time.
    Good luck with your goals!

    1. Avatar

Thanks. I’d say, once you have a language picked out, start small, like 10 minutes a day and once you get used to learning daily increase the amount of time you spend on the language. In no time you will be stilled in that language and can start working on another if you wish.

Nice goals. I especially love the reading books part. I should add that to my goals too, cause I have been slacking on my reading. All the best!

    1. Avatar

Thanks. Reading is one of my favorite past times, so I have to include it in my monthly goals. Keeps me working on my TBR and gives me something to look forward to every day. I would definitely recommend adding it to your goals.

Mmm the food you made all sound so delicious. I love the sound of all of them! These are all really great goals!! I feel you with the blogging goals. I feel like I’m never ahead on posts!! I’m barely getting by but wouldn’t it be great? haha. Good luck this month!!

    1. Avatar

They were all so good, especially the orange chicken – that was by far our favorite. We plan to make all of them again but the orange chicken is going to happen first. I think a lot of bloggers feel the same way. Getting ahead is one thing, staying ahead is a completely different and altogether more difficult task. Thanks. Good luck with your goals as well.

Your goals list is motivation for me to create my own! I like the idea of trying 1 new recipe, that’s something I really need to look into. I stick to making the same ole things.

    1. Avatar

I’m glad to hear that. Making a monthly goals list is one of the best things I started doing last year. It really does keep me on track and motivated to reach some of my bigger long-term goals. I hope you do try a new recipe each month, it’s so fun and you get some tasty food out of it.

  8. Avatar

Excellent goals! I have some items on my blogging to do list that seem to get put off every month too (including a work with me page).

I love that you always try out new recipes and it seems like the perfect time to eat down the freezer before a new season of home grown produce 🙂

    1. Avatar

Thanks. Yeah, I have been pushing certain blogging tasks back every month but I need to get them done so need to start focusing on one or two each month so I can finally accomplish them.
Yes, it’s definitely the ideal time to eat down the freezer. That way I have room for all the stuff that will be coming out of the garden in the coming months.

Even if you didn’t accomplish some of your goals last month I think you did a hell of a job! Haha Did a lot more than I did last month. Here’s to hoping yours and my August is filled with goal getting times. :]

    1. Avatar

That’s true. I am pretty happy with what I accomplished, even though not all of my goals were met. It happens and it just means getting around to them this month. Thanks.

  10. Avatar

These are all great goals to have. I’ve been meaning to walk more myself. I love taking walks in the evening once it cools down. My blog has unfortunately taken a backseat this summer. I picked up some hours at my jobs, so I haven’t been able to spend as much time on my blog as I’d like to. Blogging more is definitely on my list for this month and next!

    1. Avatar

Taking walks is so good. We tend to walk in the morning and then one in the evening if the weather is good. Summer tends to be hard on blogs as there is so much to do otherwise. Good luck getting back into the swing of it.

  11. Avatar

Good luck with your goals. This year I have the worst reading slump…So far in the whole year, I`ve read less than in January 2018. Yup, it`s that bad.

    1. Avatar

Thanks. Ugh, that sucks. I had a major reading slump through most of 2018, so I feel your pain. I hope you are able to get out of it soon.

  12. Avatar

Good luck with your August goals! I’ve been working on pinterest images today and I’ve actually really enjoyed it! x

    1. Avatar

Thanks. I kind of hated making them at first, but now I enjoy it quite a bit.

  13. Avatar

oh my! You actually read 10 books in one month? Wow! How did you do that! I’m having a hard time finishing a book or two because of work and stuff 🙁

    1. Avatar

I did! Honestly, it was one of my weaker reading months. You should check out how much I read in May. I don’t work, so a lot of my day goes to reading. Plus I can be a pretty fast reader, so getting through that many books is easy. I hope you are able to find some more reading time soon.

  14. Avatar

Sounds like you had a productive month…it’s always hard to fit everything in that we plan to do! I love the sound of all the new recipes you tried 🙂 Good luck with your August goals xx

    1. Avatar

It was a pretty good month. I do wish I had gotten more done, but I’m happy with what I did accomplish. The recipes were so good! The best one was the orange chicken.
