The fourth week of Camp NaNoWriMo has come to an end. With this week behind us, we are truly staring at the finish line. There are just six days left of this month-long writing challenge to write an entire novel in 30 days. At this point, writers should be closing in on the 40000-word mark. That does sound like a lot of words, and it is, but it’s entirely possible. This April 2021 Camp NaNoWriMo week 4 update goes over how this week of writing has gone.
April 2021 Camp NaNoWriMo 4 week
I didn’t really plan to write this day. I was still in recovery mode from participating in the 24-hour write-a-thon. So, I decided to give myself some slack and accept that if I didn’t get anything written today that would be fine. However, I couldn’t resist the pull of my novel and managed to write 603 words.
This day started off by focusing on a bunch of blog work and a few other tasks that got ignored over the weekend. By early evening I was ready to write. I dove into the story, eager to write the next phase of my characters’ adventures. And then, it happened. My computer crashed. No worries, the autosave will save me. Nope! Autosave failed. To make matters worse, I hadn’t saved in a while, so all those words were lost. However, I decided to count them anyway, because I knew approximately how much I had written and while they were no longer there on the screen I knew I had at one time written them. So, 2242 words were added.
I wasn’t expecting much for this day. This was a day that I had planned to focus on blog work, which I had slacked off a bit on lately. However, sometimes the need to write a story overrides our plans. So, while I did put in quite a few hours of working on the blog, my story was calling to me. It didn’t take long to write 2194 words.
This was another busy day with lots of blog work to be done. Even so, I did find some time to write. A couple of writing sprints that I participated in throughout the day allowed me to add 1384 words to my total.
I had a lot of plans for this day. Blog work, writing, catching up on emails and so much else. The day started well but then soon enough my internet was sputtering and then eventually died. That put a dent into a lot of my planned work. While I would have normally switched writing, but instead I focused on housework, assuming that I would write later in the day. But, the words didn’t happen. However, I did end up with a nice clean house and tackled a number of tasks I had been putting off in favor of writing. So this was a 0-word day.
I didn’t want to write this day. Despite not touching my novel yesterday, I simply wasn’t feeling it. I think part of it was I had reached a point in my novel where I didn’t know where to take the story next. That is the downside to not having a full outline. So, I did some brainstorming, jotting down some ideas of what I might do next in this story. Through this process, I wrote 1675 words.
Another busy day. I decided to spend the day baking, something I haven’t done in quite some time. Bread, cookies, and crackers were on the list. A delicious dinner made using some of the bread. Then there was a huge pile of dishes to tackle. And of course, then there’s laundry, my usual big weekend task. Despite being busy, I did put in some writing time, adding 548 words to my total.
This brought my total word count up to 54127. I am quite happy with that, as I am well ahead of my 50000-word goal. I am excited to see how much more I can write before the end of the month.
I hope you enjoy my April 2021 Camp NaNoWriMo week 4 update. Are you participating this month? If so, how is your writing going?
