The third week of Camp NaNoWriMo has come to an end. Not only does this week get us past the halfway point but it also starts us down the path to the finish line. By this point, many writers have a solid hold of their stories and are actively building their way towards the ending, tossing all kinds of obstacles at their characters and doing their best to create an amazing world. Or they may be huddled in the corner panicking over their lack of words. Trust me, I’ve been in both situations over the years. Luckily, this time around my progress is going quite smoothly. Perhaps it’s the extra push I feel from wanting to keep up a steady pace for my year of writing. Either way, it’s time to share the April 2021 Camp NaNoWriMo week 3 update. Let’s see how this week went.
April 2021 Camp NaNoWriMo week 3 update
This felt like a really slow day. I think the issue was that I had essentially run out of planned content for this story and was now forced to wing it. I vaguely know where I want the story to go but I wasn’t quite sure what paths the characters would take to get to the endpoint. Regardless of my uncertainty, I managed to write 1335 words.
Guess who forgot to write this day? Yup, that would be me. In my defense, I was distracted by life.
After a day off from writing, which gave me plenty of time to brainstorm, I was ready to write again. After a slow start to the day, I quickly fell into a steady rhythm of writing. This allowed me to write 2137 words. I even managed to name a character which is something I always struggle with when writing.
This was quite a busy day. I had a to-do list a mile long in preparation for the chaos that awaited me on Friday, so I wasn’t sure if I would find time to get any writing done. However, I managed to sneak in little writing sprints in between my tasks and over the course of the day wrote 2056 words. I was truly surprised I got that many in.
Did I forget to write again? Nope! I deliberately didn’t write this day. Why? Because day 16 would be crazy.
I often have one really good day of writing whenever I am doing Camp NaNoWriMo. This is the day where thousands of words pour freely from my mind onto the page. However, this day wasn’t the typical solid day of writing. On this day, I was participating in a 24-hour write-a-thon. Yes, you read that right, I was attempting to write for 24 hours! This was probably the hardest day of writing ever, not just because of the number of hours spent at the computer pumping out words but also the early start time.
Despite feeling tired for most of it and questioning my sanity for a good chunk of the day, I managed to write a whopping 14581 words. Technically, I wrote a bit more than that but since that’s the number I updated the NaNoWriMo site with, that’s what I’m going with.
This day saw the tail end hours of the 24-hour write-a-thon. At this point, I was running on empty and truly questioning my life choices but managed to power through adding 2509 words. And then I went to sleep because I earned it!
This brought my total word count up to 45581. That’s a pretty amazing feat, and it’s all thanks to that crazy 24 hours of writing. I am so close to the finish line and yet when it comes to the actual story I have only scratched the surface. I will keep going and see just how much I can write in the last 13 days of the month.
I hope you enjoyed my April 2021 Camp NaNoWriMo week 3 update. Have you been doing any writing this month?
